During the MMO, Xsyon, the Republic was formed as the 191st Expeditionary Unit, the "Wolverines" partly as a reference to Red Dawn and partly as a way to troll a USSR themed guild. The backstory for the MMO revolved around Lake Tahoe, so the 191st was set up as a Security Forces detachment from Nellis AFB that had gotten separated and established itself in the region.

The Expeditionary Unit structure focuses on Operations and Support as two elements under a Command element. This slimmed down and military focus allows for PvP centric structuring while including Support as an element to provide for crafting and logistics.
